Oscar Pistorius was taken to the Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria on Thursday morning after suffering from chest pains.
Correctional Services’ Logan Maistry says Oscar Pistorius was on Thursday morning taken to an outside hospital facility for a medical examination.
He says Pistorius is expected to spend the night at the facility for observation.
While Maistry was unable to provide details about the former athlete’s condition, it is being reported that he experienced chest pains and struggled to breathe.
Oscar Pistorius, 30, is being detained at the Atteridgeville Correctional Centre in the west of Pretoria. He is serving a six-year jail term for murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29, a model and law graduate, in his Pretoria house in 2013.
Whilst there was speculation that Oscar Pistorius had suffered a heart attack correctional services immediately dismissed these reports. They said offenders were taken to outside hospitals for check-ups regularly and on a daily basis, and this was no different for Pistorius.
Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Singabakho Nxumalo said: “There are medical conditions that hospitals within our facilities cannot attend to, hence we often use hospitals.”
