The sons of President Mugabe, Robert Junior and Chatunga Bellarmine were recently evicted from a luxurious apartment in the Sandton area of Johannesburg. The two were kicked out after a violent brawl that left one security officer with a broken leg and arm. The fight was said to have involved dispute over women. Mugabe’s sons are known for their notorious wild partying lifestyle.
The details come after president Mugabe said last month his wife had made an “emergency” trip to South Africa to find secure accommodation for their two sons. The two had relocated to South Africa from Harare and Dubai earlier this year. Mugabe’s sons had relocated from Dubai and Harare to Johannesburg after some problems involving fights and banned substances in the United Arab Emirates.
According to the Zimbabwe Independent, quoting unnamed sources, said the two boys had been renting a luxury apartment at The Regent apartment hotel, in Morningside, Sandton. The sources said Mugabe’s sons had been kicked out of apartment 601 at the 10 storey building which is well known for hefty rentals. Apartments at the building are rented out for up to R74 000 per month.
The boys are said to have lived large. Apart from staying in the luxurious apartment, they were usually chauffeured in Mercedes-Benz and BMW cars. At the same time they would enjoy the services of a chef and a dozen security details.
Mugabe’s sons were usually up during the night partying with different ladies, drinking and smoking. There were almost daily complaints by other tenants about the noise coming from apartment 601.
Mugabe’s wife’s trip to South Africa last month meant that she missed a rally to drum support for Mugabe’s 2018 re-election bid. It was at that rally that Mugabe first told supporters about his son’s accommodation “emergency” although he gave no details.
Robert Junior is a student at the University of Johannesburg.
